"Modify your pokemon with "Genes" by Booster Corp"
-
The main gimmick for Pokeathlon RP group is the ability to customize your pokemon in a variety of different ways using the "Gene" system set in place. While genes are meant promote creativity in an otherwise slice-of-life RP group, they are also the cornerstone to this group's story. The reason we implemented the genetics system is due to the growing trend amongst artists who have been customizing their pokemon through artwork in a way that The Pokemon Company has avoided in official media. This group is dedicated to providing an outlet for artists to boast their creativity with an in-universe reason behind these physiological changes.
-
The in-universe explanation for these genetic trait's is SCIENCE.
The desire for designer pokemon became so great that scientists started experimenting (ethically, of course) on Pokemon DNA. Due to pokemon's unstable DNA they were able to manipulate certain traits to make the pokemon more desirable. The Booster Corperation were the first ones to put the technology in the hands of consumers, by marketing Genes for public consumption. "Genes" are a physical product that a person can purchase, and, in a single dose allows them alter the appearance of their pokemon. Each gene is good for a single-use on a single pokemon.
Due to the rise in use of DNA manipulation technology all eyes are on this year's Pokeathlon Games. Despite concerns from protestors that "Genes" are akin to performance enhancing drugs, the Pokeathlon Board of Directos have allowed genetically modified pokemon to enter in this year's events.
-
For entry-level reasons, the Gene Pool is limited to only nine (9) options for the duration of the application period.
Normal, Shiny, Albino(White), Melanistic(Black), Pinkan(Pink), Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow are the "Starter genes"
More genes will become available immediately after the application period has concluded and new genes will be released periodically throughout the duration of the group.
-
You as the member are allowed to starter with one trainer, and one non-legendary pokemon. (Mythical pokemon, Ultra Beasts, and Paradox Pokemon are also excluded). Your starter pokemon can be of any evolutionary level and can express any one of the nine starter genes. Any additional trainers, pokemon, and genes may be earned through participation in group events or through purchase using in-group currency. Any future pokemon "unlocked" via purchase will automatically have the NORMAL gene, unless you have acquired another gene you wish to apply.
Un-evolved pokemon with gene modifications always evolve into pokemon that have the same gene modification. Example: A Red Pikachu will ALWAYS evolve into A Red Raichu
Unless you as the member choose to apply a gene you have acquired at the same time as the evolution.

Creative liberties and stylistic choices for the design of the pokemon are left up to you as the artist. Our one rule when designing pokemon with or without genes is that the pokemon MUST be INSTANTLY RECOGNIZABLE as the intended species. Which means "Fusions" and "Cross Breeds" are discouraged and may be rejected.
These creative liberties and stylistic choices may include: exaggerated features such as big ears or a fluffy tail, minor design changes to a pokemon's physiology, minor features inherited from a parent species, or even slight variations in color or pattern of the pokemon. Simple accessories and variations in eye color are allowed!
Creative liberties and design choices do NOT include: obvious traits from other species, major patterns or colors not originating from the pokemon species or gene, pokemon blended together from two or more different species.

Examples below:
*Pinkan(Pink) Eevee with extra large ears, curly mane and tail- OK!
*Pinkan(Pink) Eevee with Zigzagoon parent, Spikey ears and body with stripes- NOT OK!

These limitations are only put in place for pokemon with STARTER (Bronze) GENES. More creative liberties are allowed with the introduction of more complex genes which can further alter a pokemon's appearance other than just their color palette. Combining or "stacking" genes will also become integrated later on.
Spikey Striped Pinkan Eevee is certainly something that can be attainable as the Gene Pool expands, but will not be readily available in the group's infancy.

One liberty that you have is the artist is selecting the shade/tone of simple genes. There are many different shades of red: From Apple, to Maroon, to Crimson, to Wine. This can be applied to any Non-Normal or Non-Shiny gene. As stated before, Normal and Shiny pokemon can have slight variations in color but are limited to their original pallet. There will typically be examples of what is acceptable within each genes parameters, even when more complex genetics are revealed in the future.

These RED Neopets best shows the variation we allow:

*GENES*
Genes are divided into FOUR categories:
Bronze(Starter), Silver, Gold, and Platinum Genes.
Genes are sorted into one of these four categories depending on how it changes the pokemon's appearance.
-
BRONZE GENES
Also known as "Starter Genes" only affect the pokemon's general color. The pokemon's entire palette becomes tinted to the color of the corresponding gene.
-New members may start with any non-legendary pokemon with any of the nine starter genes.

SILVER GENES
A more advanced version of a Bronze Gene not limited by color. Silver genes can effect the color and pattern of of the pokemon. It can effect the entire palette or only partially.
-Silver Genes will be made available immediately after the application period.

GOLD GENES
Unlike Bronze and Silver Genes, Gold Genes may effect the anatomy of the pokemon. They may have limitations on color or pattern but more physical traits may be expressed.
-Gold Genes will be awarded for the first event, and made available shortly after.

PLATIUM GENES
Also known as "Special Genes" are known to cause the most drastic changes in a pokemon's appearance. A Pokemon with a Platinum Gene may be barely recognizable as their color, pattern, or anatomy has been altered beyond what was previously expected.
-Platinum Genes will be made available at a later date.
-
Breeding Genes and Stacking Genes are planned for future release but not yet integrated into the gene pool.
